The Silty State 300

The BITD Silver State 300 is one of my favorite offroad races to shoot each year. Just 150 miles outside Las Vegas the race is centered around the old railroad town of Caliente Nevada. Some races you go to you may struggle to find a few good shooting spots but at this race the dilemma is always trying to narrow them down and deciding where to shoot. From water crossings, big silt beds, fast rally roads, forest sceneries and railroad bridges, its hard not to find a good spot to take photos from. But you have to do your homework.

20 Photos That Define The Mint 400

The Mint 400 is a great race filled with rich tradition and historic racing. While dormant for some time it has recently been brought back to life the past couple years and is now one of the most challenging offroad races in the states. Desert Offroad Racing is my favorite thing to shoot for many reasons. This past weekend I traveled to Las Vegas to cover The Mint 400, and here are 20 of my favorite photos from the weekends festivities.

2012 BITD Vegas To Reno

The BITD Vegas To Reno race is one of my favorite races of the year to cover. Between qualifying, scouting the course, and following the race from point to point, this event is always a good time. The race covers some great terrain over old landmark towns such as Goldfield, and being that is over 500 miles you get a chance to see lots of different aspects of the course. In past years I’ve covered from the start to about the halfway point and this year was no different.

2012 BITD Parker 425

After taking two months off for the birth of our second child, our daughter Quinn, it was back to business as usual with the BITD Parker 425 race. I always enjoy shooting this race because it marks the beginning of another season, and the race itself is always fun to shoot. The different terrain, the long laps, and large entries always make for some interesting photos. The best place for photos though is always during qualifying at the race. With so many unlimited entries teams are going all out to try and qualify towards the top.

BITD Vegas to Reno Offroad Race

One of my favorite desert races of the year to take photos at is the BITD Vegas to Reno race. I like shooting the long point to point races because it adds an extra step of preparation on planning out your race day strategy. Instead of being able to pick a different spot each lap, with point to point races you need to estimate how long you can stay at each spot, time it will take to get to the next spot, and factor in some cushion so that you don’t miss anyone at your next spot.

BITD Forest 300 Race

The BITD Silver State 300 is always a fun race to shoot because its not the usual Nevada desert we’re used to. It is held near Caliente, NV which is around 4500 feet up and filled with lots of great scenery. While chasing the race you’ll be driving next to Joshua Trees, and a few minutes later be in the middle of a forest. The only bad part was Friday night and Bink and I slept in our trucks and it was 31 degrees out.
