Pikes Peak International Hill Climb – The Race To The Clouds

Recently I had the opportunity to cover the 95th running of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb for the first time. I was part of a team that consisted of Larry Chen and Louis Yio as the Official Photographers for Pikes Peak. Quite an honor. The race is known as being one of the toughest hill climbs in the world because of the altitude that it’s run at. The start line is already at 9,390 feet and by the time you finish the race after 12.42 miles and 156 turns, you’re up at 14,115 feet.

Smoke And Rubber Fly At Formula Drift Seattle

One thing that is always good to do as a photographer is challenge yourself and put yourself in conditions where you don’t feel comfortable. It’s easy if you shoot the same thing all the time to get in a routine where you settle for doing the same thing time and time again but you don’t improve as a photographer that way. One common thing that all successful photographers have is that they are able to excel in any situation that they are put in and I try to do that each time I head out with my camera.

NHRA Denver Brings Flames to Bandimere Speedway

One of my favorite tracks to shoot on the NHRA circuit is in Denver Colorado at the Bandimere Speedway. Its a great location, the fan turnout is high, and you always have some great light, especially on Friday with the night session. This year we got lucky and got some nice cloud cover for the event which helped make some nice photos as well.

NHRA in Seattle Shines

For the first time I made the trip to Pacific Raceway just outside of Seattle Washington for the last race on the NHRA Western Swing. Its always exciting to visit a new NHRA track because you are forced to step out of your comfort zone. When you go somewhere you’ve shot before, its easy to get caught in doing the same thing you’ve always done, but at a new drag racing track every angle is new, each chance you take on a photo is something you haven’t shot before.

NHRA Rolls Into Denver

Once again I made the trek out to Denver Colorado to shoot the NHRA race at Bandimere Speedway with my friend and fellow photographer Mark Rebilas to cover his various clients. Bandimere is a great track to shoot at as you get a night session for Friday’s qualifying (which equals flames!), and the stands are always packed with fans. Bandimere also has a special place in my heart as it was the first time I caught a Funny Car exploding and the car body flying off into the air.

Flames Heat Up NHRA Las Vegas

The more NHRA events that I go to the more I learn to appreciate the sport and its drivers. Being able to harness all that power and make it down the track in under 4 seconds in a pretty amazing feat for the teams, and being able to be right at the start line only a few feet away is pretty exciting.
