The 2013 SCORE Baja 500 Through My Eye

Shooting an offroad race down in Baja is always a great experience. The people are great and welcoming, and the atmosphere on race day is something you just don’t get in the states. This year the SCORE Baja 500 ran a few new sections that either hadn’t been run before, or weren’t used in quite some time, so I made sure to prerun as much as I could.

20 Photos That Define The Mint 400

The Mint 400 is a great race filled with rich tradition and historic racing. While dormant for some time it has recently been brought back to life the past couple years and is now one of the most challenging offroad races in the states. Desert Offroad Racing is my favorite thing to shoot for many reasons. This past weekend I traveled to Las Vegas to cover The Mint 400, and here are 20 of my favorite photos from the weekends festivities.

2012 BITD Vegas To Reno

The BITD Vegas To Reno race is one of my favorite races of the year to cover. Between qualifying, scouting the course, and following the race from point to point, this event is always a good time. The race covers some great terrain over old landmark towns such as Goldfield, and being that is over 500 miles you get a chance to see lots of different aspects of the course. In past years I’ve covered from the start to about the halfway point and this year was no different.

2012 Baja 500 – Tidal Wave of Silt

The SCORE Baja 500 is always a journey in itself to photograph. While the race is going on the media have their own race to get from spot to spot as fast but as safely as possible in order to deliver what we need to our clients. A photographer has to prepare for a race the same way a team does. We have to prep our vehicles, we need to prerun the race course, we need to be ready for a long day out in the desert, and we have to be focused on our job at hand. The difference between a driver and a photographer is that once the checkered flag hits, we still have work to do. We need to edit photos and get them out to clients as fast as possible. We have to work for hours going through everything, backing them up, promoting ourselves, etc, etc, all before the next race. And in between all that fit in time for our families.

BITD Vegas to Reno Offroad Race

One of my favorite desert races of the year to take photos at is the BITD Vegas to Reno race. I like shooting the long point to point races because it adds an extra step of preparation on planning out your race day strategy. Instead of being able to pick a different spot each lap, with point to point races you need to estimate how long you can stay at each spot, time it will take to get to the next spot, and factor in some cushion so that you don’t miss anyone at your next spot.

SCORE Baja 500 Adventure

The legendary SCORE Baja 500 was this past weekend and like always it didn’t disappoint. Saturday was a day of great racing with Bryce Menzies winning the prestigious Trophy Truck class as well as the 4 Wheel overall. In Class 1 Steve Euegino/Adam Pffankuch took the win coming from the back of the pack picking people off mile by mile.
